1. FEATURE: Glorious Failure

“I intentionally make at least three mistakes a day!” said Dr Michael Hall at a training session I attended.

“Did he really just say that?” I wondered to myself.

“Yes, I try to make mistakes on purpose! Because if I’m not failing, I believe that I’m not learning” Dr Hall continued. That was the first time he introduced me to the concept of being gloriously fallible.

I had heard of learning from our mistakes, and that seemed like the strategy to use to lessen the pain of the error, and hopefully not repeat it. However, developing the intentional state of being gloriously fallible was new to me. How could making a mistake be wonderful and something to celebrate? And even be set as an intention?

Somehow some of us have grown up with the feeling that failing at something is a big negative- it’s something that we feel bad about. It’s something that we try so hard to avoid- often to the extent that it prevents us from trying something a little different or even new.

Yet failing at something is ultimately just information: as the presupposition in NLP says "There is no such thing as failure- only feedback". And feedback, or information that comes back at us in response to some action we’ve taken (or not taken even), is the food of champions... CLICK HERE FOR FULL ARTICLE

2. Featured Book: In the Zone with South Africa's Sports Heroes
Well done to our Bokke!

Besides being proud of our Springboks, we can also learn from our sports heroes who perform successfully (and those that fail gloriously) at such high levels. Meta-Coach and co-author of the newly released “In the Zone” book, Tim Goodenough, has outlined his views on what he believes the mental aspects are that lead to the Springboks bringing the World Cup trophy home. You can read about this on the Inner Coaching blog, here.

Tim, together with Meta-Coach Mike Cooper, interviewed 17 of our Sports stars, and they share in their book how these sports heroes achieved consistently high levels of performance. They have identified the mental skills that were common amongst these top performers, and present them in this easy to read book on zoning. And best of all is they show you how to develop these mental skills for yourself, and how they can be applied off the sports field.

3. The Personal Expression

It’s been a time of finishing some major projects in the last four weeks for me. Some of them have been on the go for over a year, so it’s going to be great to have that time and energy available for new things! It’s now a time to rejoice in the going live and completion of the projects!

In the theme of celebrating, I also celebrated my health with my first burger in over 3 years last night! And it was yummy! It was also a step towards re-introducing wheat into my diet.

I’m also looking forward to a holiday coming up in November where I’ll be spending a lot of time on some beaches in Mozambique!

With my ongoing matchstick trading project, since my last newsletter I’ve traded the holiday and now have 3 grand up for trade. So can anyone do with some cash? If so, make me an offer through onematchstick.co.za!

Smiles,
Telana
