I just found this beautiful poem “The First Step” by Sophie Diener and just wanted to share it.

It’s about taking the first step. About just attempting something, even though you feel hesitant to step outside your comfort zone.

I wanted to remind you just how powerful that initial move can be. Every small step you take chips away at fear and builds up your courage and confidence. It may feel uncomfortable at first, but each tiny action brings you one step closer to finding your voice, standing up, and being truly seen.

Imagine where this first step could lead. Maybe it’s the start of you feeling more comfortable sharing ideas in meetings, or even delivering a presentation down the road. Maybe it’s setting up a time to have a courageous conversation, or to start a new hobby. These might seem like small actions, but they’re often the first step towards something transformative.

Whatever your goal, remember that taking the first step is often the hardest—but it’s also the most important. You don’t have to have all the answers or feel fully ready; just start where you are, and let that one small action be a seed that grows your courage over time.

So, what’s your first step today? Whether it’s speaking up, co-presenting with a colleague, or even reading a new book that challenges you, know that I’m here cheering you on. You’ve got this!
